The 2014 Top 100 Global Innovators
For the past three years, the IP & Science business of Thomson Reuters, drawing on its unique store of patent data, has presented the “Top 100 Global Innovators”—companies that, to a measurable extent, have distinguished themselves by turning creativity and originality into tangible assets. The fourth annual Top 100 listing, new for 2014, has now been released.
To select the Top 100 Global Innovators, Thomson Reuters consults its suite of tools for monitoring patenting and intellectual-property activity: Derwent World Patents Index, Derwent Patents Citation Index, Quadrilateral Patent Index, and Thomson Innovation. With these resources, companies are evaluated according to a range of criteria based on the volume, success rate, and worldwide influence of their patent applications.
The new 2014 roster offers a few striking changes from years past, notably a surge by Asia-based companies, including the first appearance on the list by a firm located in China.
Along with listing the companies, the report presents breakdowns by nation and region, as well as specifying the industries represented. For a sampling, download an infographic that features several highlights.
