Between 2002 and 2006, Thomson Scientific indexed 23,896 papers that listed
at least one author address in Argentina. Of those papers, the highest
percentage appeared in journals categorized under the heading of
agricultural sciences. As the right-hand column indicates, the impact
(average citations per paper) of agricultural-sciences papers from
Argentina was 12% below the world average for the field during the
five-year period (2.40 cites per paper for Argentina versus a world average
of 2.74 citations). On the other hand, Argentin's impact in
psychology/psychiatry exceeded the world mark by 9%, and the nation's
relative-impact scores were comparatively strong in physics, mathematics,
clinical medicine, and engineering.
