Steven Phillips in a baobab in Madagascar. This species (Adansonia grandidieri) is one of about 2000 whose distributions were modeled using Maxent for a large conservation planning study in Madagascar, published in Science last year (Science, 320, pp. 222-226, 2008). I was one of 22 co-authors on the study.

A Maxent model of the distribution of Bradypus variegatus, a three-toed sloth, which was one of the species we used to showcase Maxent in the paper. Warmer colors show stronger predict of suitable conditions for the species.
