Top 20 nations

The heavy-hitters among the nations are evident when examining the lists of top nations by cites and by papers. The US, with its whole-genome and epidemiology studies, ranks first, and the UK, France, and Germany, all big players in vaccine studies rank at the top as well. The influence of Novartis researcher Rino Rappuoli and his colleagues is evident in the placement of Italy on these lists. The countries of origin of several other highly cited researchers and institutions also feature prominently on these lists.

The cites per paper list is notably different than the other lists. Here, African nations like Uganda, Kenya, Gambia, and Zimbabwe take their places among the top 20. The research dealing with cryptococcal meningitis in patients with HIV/AIDS plays a large role in getting these nations on the list.
