Why do you think your paper is highly cited?/Would you summarize the significance of your paper in layman’s terms?

It presents full sky maps of the polarization of the microwave sky and from those maps determines when the first stars turned on and places limits on the fraction of the universe made of gravitational radiation.

Does it describe a new discovery, methodology, or synthesis of knowledge?

Yes, all three (view).

How did you become involved in this research, and were there any problems along the way?

I’ve been working in this field since I was a graduate student. There were many problems along the way, but we worked our way through them.

Where do you see your research leading in the future?

We hope to continue to contribute to building our picture of how the universe evolves.

Do you foresee any social or political implications for your research?

Socially, we are beginning to think of the observable universe in familiar and scientific terms. That this is possible affects how people think of their place in the cosmos.
