Between 2003 and 2007, Thomson Reuters indexed 30,974 papers that listed at
least one author address in Norway. Of those papers, the highest percentage
appeared in journals classified under the heading of geosciences, followed
by plant & animal sciences. In both of those fields, as the right-hand
column indicates, Norway's citations-per-paper average, or impact,
surpassed the world average. (In geosciences, for example, the impact of
papers from Norway was 23% above the world mark: 4.69 cites for Norway
versus an average of 3.80 cites for the world.) Papers from Norway-based
authors also registered strongly in computer science (71% above the world
average), agricultural sciences (56% above), engineering (+37%), and
clinical medicine (+35%).
